Python cleaning advice needed please

Postby vanillarum » Sun May 31, 2009 12:01 pm

OK, so after almost a year and a half, one of my 2 Python tubes is getting a little blackened. What is the best (and safest) way to clean this ? Bleach, followed by a good rinse ? First time I've ever had to do it. Not bad for a year and a half. My other, shorter one is still pretty clean (only about 10' long), but this one is 25' and needs a cleaning. Thanx for any and all help.

I would just soak it in a mild bleach solution. Just soak it a few times or just run some water thru it down the drain to rinse it out well. Vinegar might work as well, but I don't know if that would have any bad affects on the tube or not, or how effective it would be.

I use several hoses for syphoning. They get dirty and I have worked out a great wat to clean them. I pump a bleach solution through them until they are clean. Just fill a bucket, hook up a small pump or powerheade and circulate the solution through the hose until its clean.

When done, to rinse take the open end and let it flow down the drain and let clean water run into the bucket end. Ff you want to be super safe, repeat the bleach step but use heavily dechored water in a the "loop".

Excellent advice. This is very similar to the method that I use. Vinegar is great for removing hard water scale but not so great for cleaning.

Clean it like you would a shotgun barrell, run a line with a splitshot (sinker) on one end a rag on the other. Add bleach to the rag and drag it through until clean. Works for me.
