Chat Room

There's been a lot of complaining about the removal of the old chat room. Although it worked the same as the current one except you couldn't use the board smilies and wasn't customizable to the site look. The prior chat room, "Chat Spot" does not work with the new version of phpBB. phpBB2 was outdated, had security risks and is no longer supported. So the upgrade was necessary.
Other chat options:
123FlashChat. Very customizable, has a large number of modules that can be installed, including a video chat module. Only $199 plus $99 for every module you want to add.
FlashChat - Not as many modules, somewhat customisable. Rooms. Private Messages. $5
Ajax Chat - It's what we're using. I could remove the shout box if it'd make you feel better. Free.

List your suggestions. We are running phpBB3. Find a compatible chat that you like and I'll install it. I'm not spending 200 to 300 dollars for 2 people to use chat.

Flash chats not that bad so i'd go for that one if it were me. I mean what the hells 4 bux in the scheme of things?

Well what? One comment. Shows me just how important this issue really is.
I don't mind spending the five bucks. It'd be nice to have more feedback however. You know the old saying, don't throw good money after bad money?

Whatever turns your wheels. Personally i prefer a chat to posting a lot of BS for others to read , but if no one else wants a chat whizz on it.

Tim, I would be hard pressed to spend any money, on something that only a few "might" benefit from. As it is, we have a chat room, that doesn't cost anything. I do remember the chat room used to get used a lot more than it does now. BUT, I just don't see enough interest to be worth spending money. In the future, if interest picks up, then revisit the idea!

Zippo. I could remove the the shout box from forum page. Then only those on the chat page would see the posts.

Tim, I like the idea of removing the shout box. It was a neat idea, but while chatting, people don't want those in chat to be able to read it. I would pop into chat if people were there, but seems like nobody is ever online here anymore
